Moscow is the capital city of Russia as well as being at the historical and political centre of the Russian Federation (previously the old Soviet Union). Moscow's famous architecture includes many monasteries and cathedrals and is most famous for the Kremlin set in Red Square. The city of Moscow is over 1000 years old and has been the site of many battles for political power and independence, including famous battles during World War Two. Over time, Moscow became the icon and symbol of communism throughout the world. The Central Administrative Okrug building is where the Russian President is based and is the home to the government of the Russian Federation.

The infrastructure and modern buildings of Moscow (such as the seven sisters) were created by Stalin. There are also many other famous Moscow landmarks including the Presidium of Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow International House of Music, the Swissotel Krasnye Holmy and the Paveletsky Tower Business center.  The influence of Stalin is profound throughout Moscow and Russia in the sense that a political ideology was implemented over a long period of time. However, during the 1990’s, the influence of market forces has changed the cultural by a drop of Moscow as big business has been introduced and the concept of competition has created increase wealth for the few as well as crime and corruption.

Some of the most popular and picturesque accommodation and buildings are located in the old part of the city near the Boulevard ring. The geography of Moscow is also as diverse as its culture in that there are a mixture of old Historic Monuments are alongside tower-blocks and modern run-down dwellings. The geography includes many parks and gardens as well as forests in the outer areas of the city. With the climate of Moscow ranging from temperate to extremely cold during winter time, it is not surprising that the city has many winter sports available as well as dozens of stadiums (such as the Central Moscow Hippodrome), for football and other sporting events.

The main airport at Moscow is the Sheremetyevo Airport, which was unbuilt to cater for travellers going to the Olympic Games back in 1980. From there airport you can take taxis or a minibus and into the city or and the local metro station. If you arrive in Moscow by train there are eight major stations connecting to the metro system of Moscow. getting around Moscow is very simple by using their metro service which is clean, spacious and extremely efficient. Some metro stations are so beautifully decorated that they are worth visiting in their own right for the aesthetic value.
